This research represents a theoretical, methodological, and descriptive framework for understanding the forms of symbols used in paintings in contemporary artistic experiments and deducing the multiple connotations that a symbol can evoke. This is done by reading the artwork using an analytical approach in which the researcher relies on the content analysis method of some examples of artworks from a number of generations of visual artists. This is aimed at understanding the transformation and semantic diversity of the symbol from one artist to another within its structural and intellectual context. Perhaps what this research addresses in terms of understanding the intellectual structure of contemporary visual practice through the intellectual trends of some artistic schools and the practical experiences that accompanied them clarifies the extent of the diversity of symbolic connotations in artists’ works and their connection to cultural heritage, emphasizing the direct and close connection between them and the historical and cultural component.
