Biography

Waleed Mohammed (b. 2000, Khartoum, Sudan) is a visual artist based in Nairobi, Kenya. His work explores themes of identity, memory, and cultural transformation. Through painting and mixed media, he reconstructs archival imagery and personal histories. Waleed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine and Applied Arts from the Sudan University of Science and Technology (Painting Department). He held his first solo exhibition in 2022 in Khartoum, and he participated in several group exhibitions across Sudan, Kenya, Spain, Germany, Portugal, the US, and Egypt.

His artistic practice is deeply influenced by Sudanese heritage and the evolving narratives of migration and displacement. In 2024, he was awarded the MRI Fund for Artists Under Risk by the Goethe-Institut in Nairobi. Currently, Waleed is working from his studio in Nairobi. Alongside this, he is co-founding a Sudanese art collective with fellow artists in Nairobi, aiming to create a space for artistic exchange and community engagement.
