Biography

Said Ahmed is a full-time visual artist and member of the Union of Visual Artists. He graduated with First-Class Honors in a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Sudan University in 2016, where he also worked as a part-time teaching assistant for Portrait and Landscape courses from 2017 to 2018. He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Sudan University of Science and Technology (2008–2011) and has published a peer-reviewed research paper in Sudan University’s Journal of Humanities. He has received numerous awards, including the Main Prize at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria (2024), the Best Graduation Project Award at the College of Fine and Applied Arts (2016), and Third Prize in the Afrabia competition for visual arts (2015). He illustrated and designed scenes for the film *WhatsApp*, which won the Gold Award at the Khartoum Mobile Film Festival in 2014.

His projects include the “Utopia Mosaic Mural,” funded by the New Space program and Goethe-Institut Sudan, and the animated children’s film “From My Grandmother’s Chest”, supported by the Asli program (2022). He completed art residencies, including one in Tunisia through Artists at Risk and Art Veda (2023). Said Ahmed has exhibited internationally, participating in the Venice Biennale (2024), the Ars Electronica Festival (2024), and Fabriano in Acquarello, Italy (2020). He contributed to the “Mosaic Index Mural” at the First International Mosaic Forum in Tunisia (2023) and the “Mosaic Mural Honoring Harissa” at the Second International Mosaic Forum (2023). He also held a solo caricature exhibition on the Sudanese revolution in Cairo (2019) and participated in group exhibitions such as “The Refuge” in Omdurman (2022) and “Sudanese Visions” in Cairo (2019).
