Amna Elhassan

Born In 1988

Biography

Amna Elhassan finds her inspiration in the physical, spiritual and spatial transformative processes experienced by women in her community, particularly in the aftermath of the war that erupted in Sudan in 2023. Women’s challenges and emancipative struggle are at the core of her work, which crosses several mediums, including printmaking ,paintings and installations. Tackling issues such as the perception of the female body in both the public and private spheres, Elhassan’s work adds to the conversation surrounding women’s status in today’s society, while also highlighting the violence and displacement endured by Sudanese women and children after the war. She received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Khartoum University in 2010, a master’s in architecture from Sapienza University of Rome in 2013 before enrolling in a studio program at Khartoum arts training center (2017-2019). All these educational experiences led her to the path of working as a full-time visual artist.
